Mangaluru, Jun 14: Kalahastendra Swamiji, who is the head of the union of 61 Swamijis of Vishwakarma community, announced at Bengaluru on Tuesday June 13 that vibrant leader of the community, K P Nanjundi, has decided to resign from Congress party. He said that Nanjundi, who has been serving Congress party and the society in general in various ways, has decided to leave his parent party, having been frustrated over repeated injustices he has faced from the party leadership.

The Swamiji was addressing a joint press conference held at Bengaluru along with Nanjundi. He noted that Nanjundi has served Congress sincerely in the capacity of general secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee for six years, but the party did not reciprocate or reward his services by offering a position of responsibility and status. "Within a week, Nanjundi will leave the party and announce his decision on joining a new party within ten days," he announced.

Nanjundi, who was present at the press conference, said that his name had figured in the list of candidates chosen for the post of MLC six months ago but it suddenly disappeared from the list at the last minute under mysterious circumstances. He revealed that instead of handing his resignation to state leaders, he will directly go to New Delhi to hand over the letter to national president of the party, Sonia Gandhi.

"The Swamiji has spoken to leaders of two parties including BJP state president, B S Yeddyurappa. I will move to a party where Vishwakarma community gets respect and status. The Swamiji will eventually decide about my next political move. I am sure that the entire Vishwarma community is backing me," he added.
