Shivamogga, Jun 12: Fr Franklin Philip D'Souza, well known Catholic charismatic preacher was appointed by the Bishop of the diocese, Dr Francis Serrao S J as the diocese director for the family counselling centre. A few months back he shared his vision and special call in the preaching mission and strengthening the families in the love of God.
Fr Franklin D'Souza was born on October 22, 1973 at Murkoth Palke village near Moodbidri. After his primary studies at Guddeyangady, he completed high school at Jain High School Moodbidri. He studied PUC at Milagres College Mangaluru and perused BA at Bangalore University and MA in history from Mysore University. His priestly studies were done at the Minor Seminary of St Mary's Seminary, Mysuru. Bachelor of Philosophy, Bachelor of Theology and Masters in Theology were at St Peter's Pontifical Seminary as well as the institute of Bengaluru. He was ordained by the Bishop of diocese of Belgaum of that time Dr Bernard Moras at St Ignatius Loyola Church, Paladka on May 10, 1999.
In 1999 he was appointed assistant priest at Chitradurga's substation Infant Jesus Church, Challakere. He served there till 2001. He underwent a life changing Christ experience and ever since has been preaching his divine experience based on the Word of God. In the year 2000 he met T K George who motivated him to proclaim the good news in a charismatic way.
From 2001 to 2003 he was appointed parish priest of Our Lady of Victories Church at Nagar (Hosanagar taluk). He served as diocesan youth director. In 2003 he was appointed staff member for St Peter's Pontifical Seminary. He once again discovered his mission to preach the Word of God. In 2005 he was appointed diocesan youth director as well as Catholic charismatic director for the diocese of Shivamogga. Fr Franklin was also the joint secretary for the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission at the same time. In 2008 Karnataka Regional Bishops Conference appointed him secretary for the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission as well as Karnataka regional youth director. He has travelled and motivated youth all over Karnataka.
Recognising the father's special charism in motivating youth as well as helping them to have a Christ experience, he was appointed by the Catholic Bishops Conference of India as secretary for the CBCI Youth Council as well as the National Youth Director in 2011. On completing his term on August 15, 2015, he took eight months sabbatical leave.
In May 2016, he returned to the diocese of Shivamogga and was appointed as rector as well parish priest at the Shrine of Our Lady of Health, Harihar. Within a year he brought about a spiritual revival among the parishioners as well as pilgrims. Here he spent much time in personal prayer and contemplation. After contemplating and listening to his inner voice inspired by the Holy Spirit he decided to commit full time into preaching and healing the mission. Uderstanding his special charism, mission and call his bishop has given him new responsibilities.
Fr Franklin D'Souza comes from a very devout family. He is a genuine preacher. He has motivated thousands of people especially youth and teenagers. He has traveled to almost 27 nations throughout India. He has preached more than 2000 retreats in his last 18 years of priestly ministry. He also holds talks on various TV channels. He is the author of 'Be healed' which is also in Konkani 'Nitol za' and Kannada 'Shuddhanagu'. He has enacted in a number of Biblical songs. His preaching and healing Holy Eucharists are available on YouTube. Fr Franklin's zeal and love for the gospel and the Church can not be measured. He together with T K George and their musician William D'Souza have brought a transformation in many lives. He has also preached three major revival retreats at Sainagar grounds, Vasai.
