Kundapur, Jun 9: Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane held protests at Shastri circle on Thursday June 8 urging the arrest of the accused who caused mental agony to a young girl at Amasebail and incited her to suicide.
Office bearers of the association addressing the protesters said that an atmosphere of fear is created whereby young girls are unable to be out alone. "We feel scared to send girls to work or college. The incident has created anxiety that stays till our daughters who have gone out in the mornings return in the evenings. The government should punish the accused who have caused atrocities on a girl from Amasebail who had gone to work and provoked her to commit suicide. The house members of the accused should immediately pay the medical expenses incurred to treat the girl or else we will hold repeated protests. If fear is caused among such people, they will never venture into such misdeeds in the future. Therefore, we must create a society that creates fear among such elements. The government too must take extra initiatives towards women’s safety. Women must be able to move about without fear," they said.
Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane convener Sheelavathi, joint secretary Rajarathna, members Padmavathi, Sujatha, Geetha, Srimathi and Shamala were present.
