Rio de Janeiro, Jun 8 (IANS): Journeyman coach Levir Culpi will assume control of Brazilian Serie A football giants Santos, according to widespread media reports.
The 64-year-old has agreed to financial terms with the eight-time Brazilian top flight champions but asked for time to resolve personal issues before the appointment is made public, Globoesporte reported.
The position was made vacant by the sacking of Dorival Junior after the club's 0-2 loss to Corinthians on Saturday, a result that left Santos 16th in the 20-team standings, reports Xinhua news agency.
Former Manchester City and Brazil international midfielder Elano was named the club's interim coach on Monday.
Culpi, who has coached 29 clubs in his 31-year managerial career, has been out of work since being fired by Fluminense last year.
