Mangaluru, Jun 7: A student pursuing PhD in mechanical engineering at National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Suratkal, ended his life on Tuesday, June 6.
The deceased has been identified as Manukuttan (28), who hails from Kollam in Kerala. He had reportedly used a bedsheet to hang himself at Kalyani Apartment, Talambail in Suratkal.
According to police, Manukuttan had attended classes on June 6. His brother had called him on phone that evening, but failed to get response. Worried about his brother, he called up Manukuttan's friends who tried checking his apartment. When they failed to get any response from the apartment, they called the police who broke open the door and found him hanging from the fan.
It is said that Manukuttan was suffering from migraine since long and had even slipped into unconsciousness during classes. Frustrated at this recurring problem, it is suspected, he would have chosen to commit suicide.
Manukuttan is survived by his wife Greeshma, who is pregnant. It is gathered that he had been to his native to drop his wife home last week.
The body was shifted to Wenlock hospital for post-mortem. A case about the incident was registered at Suratkal police station.
