Rio de Janeiro, Jun 5 (IANS): Former Brazil and Manchester City midfielder Elano was named interim chief coach of Santos on Sunday, a day after the sacking of Dorival Junior.
The former playmaker of Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Chennaiyin FC joined Santos' backroom coaching staff in January after ending his playing career last November.
The 35-year-old was aked to be Santos head coach on Sunday after Dorival was fired following a 0-2 loss to Corinthians, a result that left them 16th in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings, reports Xinhua news agency.
The 55-year-old Dorival was appointed Santos boss for a second time in July 2015.
In his two spells in charge, he led the club to 111 wins, 34 draws and 44 losses.
