Mumbai, Apr 7: The Greenpeace on Sunday slapped “eviction” notices on Shah Rukh Khan and other residents of Bandra Bandstand as part of its efforts to warn Mumbaikars of the impacts of climate change. The activists put up the Blue Alert “eviction” notices on buildings like the Taj Land’s End also.

The notices, posted on the buildings, including Khan’s bungalow, Mannat, read that residents would have to vacate the structures as they would be submerged by 2050 due to the rising sea-level and inaction to stem climate change.

“The Bandstand promenade is an area which could be swallowed by the sea if the rise in global temperature is not kept under check,” Shweta Ganesh Kumar, communications officer, Greenpeace, said.

The “eviction” notices are part of a Greenpeace campaign launched in the coastal cities of Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi, Panaji and Puri, which are under threat due to the changing climate, she said.

The campaign, named Blue Alert, also has ‘Blue Busters’ talking about climate change. Celebrities like Ayesha Takia, Sonu Nigam, Anu Malik, Kunal Kohli, Minissha Lamba and Parveen Dabbas, all ‘Blue Busters’, are exhorting Mumbaikars to get their members of Parliament to talk about the issue in the House, Shweta Ganesh Kumar said.

“People in other countries, like America, are quite aware of the issue. Here, I don’t see that kind of awareness. I feel radio as a medium can speak up and then shake up people and our elected representatives,” said RJ Malishka, who has also become a ‘Blue Buster’.

“Climate change is a crisis everyone has to face,” says Sneha Rawlani, a class X student who is part of the campaign. “It’s not just about you or me. We have exploited nature for too long. Once the consequences of climate change start to show, it would be too late to act. We need to act now.”

On March 30, Greenpeace activists had put up climate change signs across the Bandra Kurla complex and Bandstand to create awareness about the issue.
