Kasargod: KSEB employee suffers violent electric shocks, breathes his last

Kasargod, Jun 1: A daily wage worker of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) died due to electrocution while repairing a power cable that had got severed. This incident happened at around midnight on Tuesday May 30 at Pachchambala near Bandyodu.

Uday Kumar (43), a native of Indiranagara in Madikeri, who was a resident of Anangur Kapihittilu in the town, lost his life in this unfortunate incident. The incident happened at Pachchambala Kalpare within the limits of Uppala electric sub office at around 11.30 pm on Tuesday. Uday Kumar was employed as a daily wager on night duty attached to Uppal office of KSEB.

It is said that the power cable had snapped due to strong wind and rain which lashed the region on Tuesday. As the electricity board's office received telephonic calls about disruption of power supply in the area, Uday Kumar along with sub-engineer, Nitheesh, went to the spot. Uday Kumar had scaled the electric pole and was joining the severed cables when he suddenly suffered electric shocks and fell down. He died on the way to hospital.

As per information, a fuse had been removed from the line and power supply to the line had been cut. The officials of the department have no clue how power was being transmitted in the absence of the fuse.

Uday Kumar's mother had died a few years back. He is survived by his father, wife, and two children.
