Mangaluru, May 30: Konaje station police arrested a prime suspect of a case of attempted murder on a shopkeeper at Pavoor Kadavu, that took place on Wednesday, May 24.
Ashraf alias Ponga Ashraf, resident of Harekala Kodenja Thota, is the said accused.
The victim Abdul Rahiman, was preparing to return home after closing his shop at night, on May 24, when a group of six suspects including Ponga Ashraf arrived in an autorickshaw and assaulted him with lethal weapons.
Rahiman who was seriously injured as result of the assault was admitted to a private hospital at Natekal.
Flashback
Ponga Ashraf was a patron of Rahiman's shop and frequented the place for mobile recharge and soft drinks where he is said to have shown heavy handedness without making the payment. Rahiman had opposed this manner.
Ashraf assaulted Rahiman as the latter had given information to the police about their drug addiction. The group assaulted Rahiman as he had informed the girlfriend of another suspect in the group of his illegal activities and got the girl to stay away from him.
Ashraf and his group were also involved in robbing Rahiman in the past.
Ashraf is also a suspect in the attempted murder of Debbeli resident Jeevan, a year ago.
