Udupi: Meeting addressing grievances of schedule caste and tribes held

Udupi, May 25: DC Priyanka Mery Francis chaired the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe grievances redressal meeting at the Atal Bihari auditorium on Wednesday, May 24.

She asked concerned officials to provide educational subsidy among scheduled classes and scheduled tribes in gram panchayat, municipal council and other departments in the ratio 60:40.

When a community leaders complained that the subsidy for education was not being received, she said that an action plan was prepared for it whereby officials were asked to set aside 40% for education for the community.

District social welfare officer Ramesh explained about the educational assistance for nursing students, which was being held online.

Discussions were held on maintenance of Ambedkar Bhavan in Adi Udupi and Kundapur.

The DC was asked for details of 'DC Manna Bhoomi' in the district by the community leaders. They spoke about the leaking water tank in Kukkundoorm, a schedule caste colony, and said, a proposal for a new tank would be submitted later.

An ITDP department official said that suitable action has been taken about inadequacies in the maintenance of Ashrama school, Bannanje.

The DC asked the deputy director of food and civil supplies to submit a report on shifting of Nadlal Gas godown in Padubidri grama panchayat.

DC Priyanka also asked the PRED department officials to inspect the drainage near the Backward Classes and Minorities Hostel, Kundapur. She asked the chief officer of town municipal council to take temporary repair measures.

The SC/ST community leaders commended officials for repairs to Uchila crematorium and cancellation of license for fish waste powder unit at Hungarcutta.

The excise department said that action will be taken and cases will be registered against illicit liquor units.

Leaders of SC/ST communities Anand Matpadi and Vijayalaxmi complained that PDO and VAs do not respond to problems in Brahmavar and Barkur.

Vasudev Mudugal urged compensation for Bidkalkatte sexual harassment and asked for a connecting road to the village lake.

Udayakumar Tallur, Sundara master, Sham Bheerthi, Manjunath and other leaders were present. Additional SP P Vishnuvardhan was present in the meeting.
