Kundapur, May 24: "With an increasing contempt for government schools, people are showing an inclination towards private schools. In a situation like such, the Old Students Association of the school is providing several facilities to retain the 122 years old Gangolli Government Urdu Higher Primary School, and improve its standard of education," said old student's association president Abdul Hameed in news conference at Gangolli Urdu Higher Primary School on Monday, May 23.
"Two school vehicles have been arranged with help from old students and M M Ibrahim, an entrepreneur from Goa. Two pairs of uniforms, study materials and sports materials for children are being provided. An annual education tour and mid-day meals are arranged. Children are also being taught computer education and spoken English. The two school vehicles will be inaugurated on May 29 when the school will be reopened, he further said.
"Old students and donors are contributing to the salary of honorary teachers, expenses for school vehicles and other expenses in the school. More money will be required for purchasing furniture for the school, smart classes, well-equipped library, computer class, IT class for ordinary citizens and construction of full-fledged school building," he said.
"The government Urdu Higher Primary School which started in 1895 to provide quality education to every child of the Muslim community is facing setbacks due to the scarcity of students. Therefore, the Old Students Association that was established in the year 2000, provided basic necessities in the school, and went to houses, explaining to the parents the achievements of the school. More than 50 students joined the school as a result of the campaign," Abdul added.
Vice president Shabuddin Mohammed Rauf, secretary Abdul Hadi, treasurer Nakuda Mohammed Mutahir, joint treasurer Mohammed Ibrahim and others were present.
