Udupi, May 22: St Mary's College, Shirva, batch of '87, recently held a reunion at Hotel Ocean Pearl, Udupi. More than 50 past students residing in United States America, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East attended the programme.
The alumni visited the final-year BA classroom where they had sat 30 years ago, and professor Moras gave a social lecture.
After the lecture, all the students paid their condolences to the departed principal Henry Castelino and their demised colleagues. After a unique start, the gathering proceeded to Hotel Ocean Pearl, where they were joined by the present principal of the college, teaching and non-teaching staff, and retired professors. St Mary's College Alumni office bearers from both the Shirva and Mumbai chapter graced the occasion.
The special occasion was further enhanced due to professor Sham Bhat's birthday. A huge cake was cut on occasion.
Retired principal of St Mary's Junior College, Alban Rodrigues, prayed blessings on the gathering.
As a gesture of love, the '87 batch made a donation of Rs 15,000 to Vishwas, a local orphanage. A donation of Rs 73,000 was created as an endowment to help the needy. The amount will be kept aside till contributions total to Rs 1,00,000 and then be deposited into an endowment fund. The interet of the same will be credited to college fee account permanently to help the needy, as a token of love by the batch.
All students introduced themselves, thereafter, Dennis Fernandes conducted the programme.
Balakrishna Kaup, Anwar Saheb, and Prescilla Mendonca were lauded, and Santosh Shetty from the United States, felicitated, for the efforts in making the day a grand success.
