MIO is a super speciality cancer hospital of the coastal region of western Karnataka.
"We will organise the fifth annual celebration on May 20, at MIO lawns, Pumpwell. Honourable minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader will be the chief guest. MP Nalin Kumar will be the honorary guest. Government chief whip, Ivan D Souza, and corporator Praveen Chandra Alva will attend the programme. Senior cardiologist Dr A V Shetty will preside over the programme. On this occasion we will welcome Ananthakrishna former chairman of Karnataka Bank as the honorary president of our hospital," he said, explaining the annual celebration details.
"Mangalore Institute of Oncology will be completing 5 years of its service to the community and the country at large. We will celebrate the occasion in grandeur. The past five years have been truly remarkable for MIO. It has helped us establish ourselves and continue progressing in our efforts to defeat cancer in all its forms. We are determined to maintain a steadfast commitment to serve our patients and their families and to keep their needs as our top priority as we also focus on cancer education and research, cumulatively catering toward the local community's needs," said Dr Suresh.
"When MIO was proposed, there were many hospitals and clinics treating cancer patients. Yet, Mangaluru was under-served in terms of complete cancer care. The hospital, which is the brainchild of Mangalore Oncology group (MOG), has top medical talent, to offer the best treatment that was formerly available only in big cities of India. In its true sense, expertise compliments technology at MIO for effective treatment and we have treated over 18,000 patients in this short span of time," he added.
Dr Jalaluddin Akbar, Anantha Krishna, Dr Sanath Hegde were present at the gathering.
