Mangaluru, May 16: After drawing blank for days in their effort to find out the whereabouts five suspects who took away Rs 7.5 crore that was supposed to be transferred to Koramangala branch of Axis Bank from the bank's Yeyyadi branch here, the police say they have achieved some headway.They are confident of making some arrests within a couple of days.
The police personnel had been fanned out to different places like Bengaluru, Hassan, Mysuru and Madikeri and other districts. Now the police have come to believe that a few are hiding in Kodagu district with the others at Mysuru.
Driver of the company entrusted the task of transferring money, SIS Prosegur Holding Company, Karibasava from Chitradurga, Parashuram, custodian residing at Annepalya at Bengaluru, and gunmen, Poovanna from Kumbaragadi in Kodagu district and Basappa from Somwarpet, Kodagu district, are absconding. Pooavanna's brother, Bheemayya, too has gone missing.
Under the directions of city police commissioner, Chandra Sekhar, deputy commissioners of police, Shantharaju and Dr Sanjeev Patil have been guiding the operations led by assistant commissioner of police (central zone), Shruti.
The said cash from Axis Bank's currency chest at Yeyyadi here was sent on May 11 to Bengaluru. Instead of taking the van to Bengaluru, it was taken to Periyapatna via Madikeri before emptying the cash and leaving behind the van by the side of road near Periyapatna.
