Mangaluru: Coming soon - 'Drifter', India's first-ever electric car designed for long drives

Daijiworld Media Network - Business

Mangaluru, May 15: The concept of electric car (EV) is relatively unexplored in India, even though many companies have come forward to manufacture cars that work on electricity. EVs not only save money, but also help contribute towards a healthy and stable environment.

Kaniyoor Projects Pvt Ltd, which is a part of Miasra Education Trust, has conceptualised an electric car 'Drifter' which will be value for money with its efficiency. The prototype of the car features a high degree of functional integration and a seamless design on the front. Manmatha Bhat Kaniyoor, an export-import management diploma holder is the founder of this unique concept. He has worked for four long years to realise his dream project.

Unique concept - The First-ever EV in India for Long Drives

Kaniyoor's 'Drifter' is the first car in India which can travel for up to 210 km on a full charged battery. While most of the cars in India can travel upto a maximum of 100 km per charge, Drifter beats them out rightly. To top it, the car can achieve a top-speed of 140 kmph.

The five-seater car will house two lithium batteries. Each battery can travel up to 210 km at a constant speed. When the car completes 150 km, the driver will receive a SMS on his phone indicating him about the nearest recharge point. While most EVs need to wait till the recharge is completed, the Drifter owners just need to replace the battery from the recharge point and continue their journey. Recharge points will be set up at every 40 km.

While the ownership of the car will be the buyer, the battery will be owned by the company. The battery will have a validity of five years. The batteries will have unique number and can be installed to only a particular car.

Drive like a King

Drifter will have all the comforts on offer for potential buyers. Music system, safety features, air conditioning, automatic wipers, remote control keys, child protecting safety locks, reverse sensors, power steering, rear AC vents, power windows, adjustable seats, plush dashboard and many more.

With a wheel base of 2665 mm and ground clearance of 147 mm, Drifter weighs 1775 kgs. The engine produces a torque of 300 Nm.

In a country like India where fuel prices rise with each day, Drifter looks quite fascinating and is expected to draw a huge audience in the country. The car will be available at an impressive price tag between Rs 9-12 lac.

Great Investment Opportunity for Budding Entrepreneurs

A brand new assembly unit will be set up at Mardala (near Subramanya) on a 20-acre land. The engines and the chassis will be imported from Belgium and China respectively.

The EV project is worth Rs 30 crore. Potential investors can invest a minimum of Rs one crore to reap rich dividends. A profit of 14 per cent per crore is fixed for the first three. Dividends will follow thereafter. Commission through car sales will also be given to the investors.

New entrepreneurs can also venture into setting up recharge points by investing Rs 5 lac which will be on a 50:50 basis. The recharge points can house service stations as well. Kaniyoor Project Pvt Ltd has already covered areas from Dakshina Kannada to Madikeri for recharge points.

Individual showroom, recharge points and service station at one place will cost Rs 50 lac. The first prototype is all set to land in Mangaluru in another two months. The parts imported will be registered on the names of the investors which will act as a surety for their money invested in the company.

The company which is sure to shine aims to start its own manufacturing unit for which it has already seen a vast land in Sakleshpur.

Other activities

Miasra Education Trust is an NGO based in Dakshina Kannada and intends to build the 400-bedded state-of-the-art hospital, facilitated with a laboratory, a diagnostic centre and 10 incubators. Expert doctors and trained nursing staff will be available in the hospital. The services will be provided to the rural population at affordable rates. As no good medical facilities are available in the surrounding areas, this hospital is a boon to the local people.

Cars produce a lot of pollution that spoil natural atmosphere. In order to help positively the environment we live in, an electric car is a great step forward. By buying an electric car, you can also receive government subsidies for being environmentally conscious.

Getting yourself a Drifter will not only save money for families, but also help in reducing carbon emissions and doing their bit in keeping the environment free of pollution.

Due to the overabundance of lithium in the world, also the lithium batteries can be recycled, the price of batteries will be declining, which is the most expensive thing. Tesla is coming up with Model 3 (the previous models are Model S & Model X which are in higher range), an affordable 200 plus mile range car . Tesla also installs home solar system and the electric car can be charged overnight. It also has charging stations from West coast to east coast (2000 plus miles) with supercharger network which charges quicker than the home based charging. The charging on supercharger is free and one can go from west coast to east coast without paying any money for the charge.
