Mangaluru: Hats off! Traffic cop turns Good Samaritan to help distressed lady driver

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru May 14: Oftentimes, a car clogging the road traffic is openly detested with little hope of getting any help. It is a double whammy if the driver happens to be a panic-stricken woman. Although in a recent incident, the city saw a pleasant turn of events when a traffic police personnel became an angel in disguise to a woman whose car broke down in the middle of the busy road. What was nicer to note was the help provided by the bystanders.

The technically adept policeman came to the rescue of the stranded driver, and the many motorists who were thus adding the long que of traffic behind the car, near Lalbagh junction on Saturday, May 13.

It was around 3pm when traffic police Deranna, from the Traffic West Police Station Pandeshwar, was monitoring traffic at the busy junction at Lalbagh and noticed a car stuck in the middle of the road, choking the vehicular movement. He approached the driver who seemed anxious and decided to help her.

Deranna opened the bonnet of the car and checked the vehicle for any fault, trying to move it onward, but his efforts were in vain, as the car would not budge. He therefore pushed the car along to the side of the road and was helped by the few bystanders there.

Speaking to daijiworld.com, Deranna said, "The car which had Maharastra registration was moving towards Lalbagh from Ladyhill. When it was moving past the Mangaluru city corporation area, the vehicle got stuck on the road. The lady driver started to panic, and inspite of her efforts, the vehicle did not move. Buses, cars and other vehicles were stranded at the spot. I went up to the car, opened the bonnet of the vehicle and checked the engine. There seemed to be a problem in the battery which caused the breakdown. So, with the help of those around, I pushed the vehicle aside and called for a mechanic to repair it."

This is not the first instance where a Mangaluru traffic police has gone out of her/his way and been a good samaritan. The city traffic police are known to have a reputation of helping people on several occasions.

now we are appreciating this traffic cop but in other day the same person should ready to face the stone pelting or other mode of angry of the people. we might have seen this kind of situation in Kashmir also. during the recent flood in kashmir our great soldiers helped them without any discrimination & everyone appreciated them. but now the same people involved in the stone pelting against the army.

In developed countries when a car/ vehicle breakdown immediately police patrol will come for help. This cop has made his salary halal by discharging his duties.
    hats off Sir.

Here normally people have roadside assistance which allows the car to be towed up to 7 miles or car jump started / gas refilled if the car is run out of gas, which is without any charge up to around 5 times depending on the membership. The annual fees are nominal which can also be utilized by family of the member with other cars. If we do not tow the car, then the cops call third party tow company which charges exorbitant rates.

@Syed Udipi,in developed countrys police come immediately to help when problem arise, because they are supposed to come first, because to avoid long ques, and because of any insurance inquiry to clear. We have to call first place any automobile repair people to remove vehicle from road.Police are called only if major accidents or persons are injured. This particular police has done a good work to be helpful in a very anxious moment .We need such volunteers and helpful Police.

This policeman deserves all praise, particularly when you consider the driver is a lady who generally are not adept at the technicality of the vehicle and as such they get into panic mode which the cop dispelled.

first be a human being. dont devide the country on 60-40 base. first we need to find out our own faults before blaming others. I hope most of the people knows what is going on in the entire world. helping is the most sacred work & help each other & let them live with peace. any kind of crimes never gives solution to the present situation. and those who do the crime in different names will also be punished in this world or there after.
