Udupi, May 14: Dr Vincent Alva has been appointed as the principal of Milagres College, Kallianpur. He will take charge from June 1 from incumbent principal Dr Gerald Pinto.
Catholic Educational Society of Udupi diocese has made the appointment.
Dr Vincent Alva has been in teaching profession since 1990. Presently he is associate professor in English at Milagres College.
Dr Alva was awarded PhD from Mangalore University recently for the thesis “Interpreting and Interrogating Indian Traditions: A Study of the Fictional Works of Gita Mehta, Shashi Tharoor and Rohinton Mistry”.
He has also presented numerous papers on literature and language, including ‘Diaspora and Literary Conflicts’, ‘Benchmarking in Rural Colleges – A Challenge’ and 'Being in the Wrong Place at the Wrong Time: An Analysis of the Novel Riot by Shashi Tharoor.’
He was the member of board of examiners of Mangalore University in the year 2011, member of board of studies Mangaluru University from 2012-15, external examiner at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, (Autonomous) and member of board of studies at St Aloysius College from 2017.
Multitalented Dr Alva is also a writer of repute. He has translated Jnana Pita awardee U R Ananthamurthy’s Kannada novel 'Samskara' into Konkani, has published a book of Konkani columns 'Karandai', and has edited a book titled 'Madhyamadalli Konkani Sahitya Academy'.
Dr Alva is lyricist, short story writer and a poet. He is a well known orator and a resource person.
Milagres College has a history of 50 years and is known for its quality of education and service in the region.
