Udupi, May 12: "There is a plan to extend Selco solar power project not only across Karnataka but also in various other states by 2018," said Selco Solar company CEO Mohan Hegde, speaking to reporters at Manipal here on Friday May 12.
He was speaking after participating in a workshop of Selco Solar producers held at Bharathiya Vikas Trust in Manipal.
"Solar energy is the solution for problems of electricity in the state. Development of this energy will help in the progress of the country. Between 16,000 to 18,000 people in the state are using solar energy. Selco is taking up activities to encourage entrepreneurs besides providing service to them. Selco is also providing necessary financial facilities at their door step depending on their needs. The company intends to develop the project in North east states such as Orissa, Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur by 2018. It is centred in the growth of local entrepreneurs and extending the business.
"Selco Incubation wants to provide stable energy to rural and tribal community and to those who have small income, besides inspiring and encouraging entrepreneurs. There is large demand for solar inverters at present. Solar energy can be excellent solution for the electricity problems in the rural region," he said.
Joby, senior manager of Selco Foundation and 12 entrepreneurs from Meghalaya, Orissa, Assam and Manipur were present in the workshop of solar energy producers.
