Kundapur, May 12: The long time demand of people in Kandlur was fulfilled with the inauguration of Kundapur rural police station on Friday, May 12. KSRTC chairman and Byndoor MLA Gopala Poojary inaugurated the station.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, Gopala Poojary said that the station has been inaugurated with the intention of serving the people from a close distance. “The station will temporarily function from the Panchayat building. I have the confidence that it will ensure social justice and peace. There are several demands for staff and vehicle for the station. I will speak to the home minister and higher officials in this connection. The construction work of the police station will start soon after receiving the RTC,” he said.
Superintendent of police P K T Balakrishna, SDPI Vishnuvardhan, DySP Pravin Nayak, circle inspector Manjappa, zilla panchayat member Jyothi M, taluk panchayat members Ambika, Raju Devadiga, Karunakar Poojary, BJP leader Kishore Kumar were present among others.
The green signal for Kundapur rural police station from the home ministry was received about a year ago. The inauguration was delayed due to lack of basic facilities and technical problems. It was so far functioning in the Kandlur panchayat building under the management of Kundapur station. It has started functioning independently after the inauguration on Friday.
21 staff members are employed in the station for the time being. Gajendra has been appointed as station inspector. There are 3 ASIs, 9 head constables, 7 constables and 3 women constables. Most of the constables are working on temporary basis who will have to go to the base station when called for. Therefore, there may be a scarcity of staff here.
The station vehicle provided in the station is about fifteen years old and is in bad condition. The vehicles that should be given to the station ASIs have not been provided yet.
Kandlur vicinity is considered sensitive. It has become notorious for the assault on the deputy commissioner and others recently. It is also notorious with regard to communal problems. Therefore it will be difficult for the police to work without vehicles.
1.10 acres land has been identified for the station at Doopadakatte. Department level discussions in that regard are in progress. MLA Gopala Poojary said that the building will be constructed soon after the land is made available.
