Mangaluru, May 11: Ahmed Qureshi, who was arrested in connection with a murder attempt case lodged against him, had succeeded in getting bail through the sixth additional district and sessions court here. Hopes of Qureshi's release on Wednesday May 10 were dashed as his body warrant was sought by the police relating to another case.
Ahmed Qureshi had been remanded to judicial custody relating to murder attempt on Prakash Poojary. He had later got admitted into the government Wenlock Hospital and a private hospital, alleging police torture and resultant damage to his kidney. Although he was later discharged from the hospital, he was again admitted into Wenlock Hospital after he complained of ill health.
The court had granted him conditional bail on Friday last subject to furnishing of bond amounting to one lac rupees. On Tuesday, he was discharged from Wenlock hospital and taken to the district prison here. Before that, a criminal investigation team to which the case of torture has been entrusted, had questioned him at the hospital.
On Tuesday, the process of his release was undertaken in terms of the bail. The prison officials got his release order. But in the meantime, police sought his body w arrant relating to a case which had happened at Suratkal during 2015. Therefore, even after getting bail, Qureshi remained in confinement.
