Puttur: 20 injured in collision of KSRTC buses near Golithottu

Puttur, May 10: After two buses belonging to Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) got involved with head-on collision at Sannampady road bend near Golithottu Uppalige on national highway 75 within the limits of Uppinangady police station in the tauk on Tuesday May 9, 20 persons suffered injuries of various degrees. Both the buses suffered extensive damage in the accident.

The injured stand admitted into different hospitals in the town and Mangaluru. The injured include Sherley (48) and Vibin (17) from Ichalampady, Jessy (38), Digant (8), Nityanand (45), Vasanti and Kusuma (62) from Kokkada, Umesh from Belur, Nagendra from Sakleshpur, Harfan from Nelyady, Umarabba from Chikkodi, Ashwini (25) from Alake Manganluru, Nitin (35) from Kulshekar Mangaluru, Masti Gowda (36) from Channarayanapatna among others.

A bus moving towards Kundapur from Bengaluru and the other one going to Arasikere from Mangaluru were involved with this accident. It is said that the driver of the bus moving to Arasikere was trying to overtake another vehicle at the road bend, when his bus collided with the other bus coming from opposite direction.

Police personnel from the town station here, who were going by the same road for some other work, helped the locals in shifting injured persons to hospitals. Private vehicles worked along with ambulances to take the injured to hospitals. Some were provided first aid in Uppinangady hospital before being shifted elsewhere.

Traffic police from the town and personnel of Nelyady police outpost worked together and summoned cranes to clear the road for traffic. A case about the accident was registered in traffic police station here.

    Dakshina Kannada bus drivers claim themselves as pilot of supersonic jet fighters.
    Now population increased all over take care while driving in narrow roads..
    Government should fix speed limit on certain spots.
    If driver drive bus.slowly...passengers start.to murmur...oombe eenchna chandi kambala..aait aaine like itanda..ten o'clock daye.
    If accident occured..moghulu poora ganga sara parda bus boodpela...
    badala....jhum re....aaya sawwan jhoom re...

    It is very common drivers overtaking on blind spots. And we have so many blind spots here. May be drivers who are not able to overtake otherwise find it easy to do so at bends. Anyways drivers need to be educated on this.
