Bengaluru, May 8: The skeletal remains of an old lady was found to have been stuffed into a cupboard of a rented house at Kengeri in the city on Sunday May 7. Those who killed the lady apparently placed her body in a bag and then concealed the bag among clothes kept inside the cupboard.
As the body has been thoroughly decomposed, establishing its identity is posing a big problem for the people. People of Shivamogga origin, who were staying at this house on rent, have gone missing. Police of Kengeri station said that they have registered a case and begun investigation.
The building where this inhuman crime took place belongs to Naveen. The ground floor house of the building had been rented out to a family. Sanjay, his mother, Shashikala, and his grandmother were living in this house. Sanjay initially was pursuing his engineering degree course in addition to working for a private company in Indiranagar on part time basis. Shashikala never ventured out of the house. On February 2, both the mother and son went missing without informing anyone. The building owner said that there has been no response to his repeated calls to Sanjay on his cellphone number. There is strong suspicion that the body now recovered might be that of the grandmother of Sanjay.
The rent agreement of the house was in Sanjay's house. Therefore, on the evening of Sunday May 7, Naveen entered the rented house by using the duplicate key he had with him. When he visited the bedroom, he saw that the door of the cupboard had been closed, and a wall was erected with cement before painting it red. Naveen immediately alerted the police about his finding.
Police who visited the spot saw that the concrete wall had been painted red, and two drums had been kept in front which were sealed with insulated tapes. As both of them gave out unbearable stench, the police opened the drums by removing the tape. In one among the drums, they saw that mud balls were stored with some chemical compounds. In the other, clothes were stuffed. After the drums were pushed aside, they realized that the cubboard had been permanently closed with concrete wall.
Apparently, the killers had dug about three to four feet deep pit inside the cupboard. After the body was kept in the pit, the cupboard was plastered with cement. The wall was painted red to ensure that no one would be able to see blood stains. Efforts were made to see that stench from inside does not come out. Deputy commissioner of police, Anuchet, said that the body decomposed faster as the entire spot around it was insulated.
Sanjay, it is said, had not paid rent since September 1. On February 1 this year, he had borrowed Rs 50,000 from the house owner by telling him that his paternal grandfather living at Shivamogga had met with an accident and injured and he was in need of money for his treatment. In the early hours on February 2, he locked the house and escaped, locals stated, never to be seen again.
