Mangaluru, May 7: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesperson V R Sudarshan
on Sunday May 7 took a dig at opposition BJP and said that its target of achieving 150 seats in the next Assembly elections was nothing but a mere 'illusion'.
Addressing a press meet at the Congress office here, Sudarshan said, "During the two-day state BJP executive committee meeting held at Mysuru, they made their agenda for the forthcoming Assembly elections. BJP is trying to misguide the people with false propaganda. It is not possible to fox the people of Karnataka by labelling Congress government as corrupt. When BJP was ruling, Yeddyurappa brought embarrassment to the state with corruption charges. This has not been forgotten by the people.
"BJP has no right to speak about corruption and blame the Siddaramaiah-led state government. When it comes to drought and other issues in the state, even the BJP has equal responsibility but it has failed in carrying out their duties.
"BJP is still under the illusion of acquiring 150 seats and I am sure that people of Karnataka will not repeat the mistake by re-electing BJP government. The recently concluded Gundlupet and Nanjangud elections were a big boost for the Congress party and confidence level is mounting high with a lot of responsibilities. We are confident that people of Karnataka will bless us in 2018 elections too. I urge people not to lend ears to criticism by BJP towards Congress," he added.
Announcing Congress membership drive, he said, "All India Congress Committee has given May 15 as the deadline to enrol new members and also for the renewal of membership. We have also made an appeal to the district Congress president to submit a list of enrolled members.
"Internal elections will be held to choose representatives and the process is likely to get completed by October. We will restructure and strengthen the Congress party prior to the 2018 assembly elections," he added.
He further said, "In the next few days AICC in-charge general secretary K C Venugopal will hold an individual interaction with MLAs, MPs and office-bearers of the party to check the ground reality and gather opinions in order make an action plan to strengthen the party."
Interim district Congress president Ibrahim Kodijaal, mayor Kavitha Sanil, A C Vinayaraj and others were present.
