Kasargod, May 4: In an incident that shocked the residents of Mandekapu in Kayyar here on Thursday May 4, a shopkeeper was brutally murdered in broad daylight by a gang.
Ramakrishna Moolya (46), owner of G K General Stores in Mandekapu, was hacked to death by persons who came to the shop in the guise of customers.
At around 2 pm, the gang came in a car, and two people entered the shop posing as customers, and hacked Ramakrishna to death with an axe. They then escaped from the scene in the same car. A total of five persons were in the car, it is said.
Eyewitnesses said that the assailants came in a black Alto.
Ramakrishna who was lying in a pool of blood was immediately rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru, but breathed his last on the way.
The motive behind the murder is not yet known.
Ramakrishna had constructed a new house behind his shop, and the house-warming ceremony was scheduled to be held on May 29.
Kasargod SP K G Simon, DySP V Sukumaran, Kumble circle inspector Manoj and other police personnel arrived at the spot and conducted investigations.
This is the second murder in the last four days under Kumble police limits. On April 30, a murder-acccused named Abdul Salam was found dead with his head severed in a desolate spot.
