Beltangady, May 4: The police, who toiled to solve the riddle in connection with the finding of the body of a youth near the road to Patrame from Dharmasthala, now feel that they are on the right track to nab the culprits. They seem to have concluded the first phase of investigation. However, they have been maintaining the details a top secret, as they feel that divulging any information might impair their investigation process.
It is said that a youth, whose engagement ceremony was to take place shortly, was murdered by a gang, after which his body was brought on this deserted road before being tossed away. Petrol was poured on the body before igniting fire, it is said. As per the preliminary information, the girl with whom the engagement ceremony was to be held during this week, was asked to call the youth living in a village, to come to the town. In all likelihood, the gang which waited for the arrival of the youth would have taken him in a car. The youngster, who would have been excited to meet his would-be wife, it is guessed, would have been killed by the gang.
There are rumours which say that the girl whose family had fixed her marriage with the boy now murdered, was already in love with someone else. There is a likelihood of the girl having arranged to eliminate her future husband with the help of a gang, as she was not happy with this alliance. The youth whose engagement was to take place had gone missing since the last some days. Policemen, who are investigating the case from all possible angles, are tight-lipped about the details they have come across so far.
It is gathered that the suspects have been questioned by the police. The mother of the slain youth, shocked by the turn of events, has become sick and hospitalized, it is learnt. The murderers and the lady who supposedly contracted the killing are yet to be arrested. The police, it appears, are pooling all possible evidences to ensure that there are no loopholes.
