Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 4: An 18-month-old child living in a multi-storied residential complex at Jeppu in the city accidentally fell down from the seventh floor and instantly got killed. The incident occurred on Wednesday May 3.

The ill-fated child belonged to a family living in Diamond City residential complex located at Marnamikatte, Jeppu.

The child in question was Muhammed Shaan, son of Imran Hussain, a native of Adyar Kannur near here. Imran works in a foreign country, and his wife, Shama, lived here with her child. Shama's father Abdul Aziz and mother also live with Shama in the said apartment complex.

At around 4 pm on Wednesday, Shaan had entered the balcony of the apartment and was standing on a chair looking outside, when he suddenly lost his balance and fell down. Shama and her parents were inside the apartment at that time and hence, they were unaware about the fate that had befallen the family. The child, which fell down to the first floor from the seventh, was admitted into a hospital immediately, but the doctors who examined the child declared him brought dead.

A case relating to this incident was filed in Pandeshwar police station in the city.

It is a tragedy waiting to happen. I have seen such a thing in Mumbai in 1994 from close quarters. I have also heard about dozens of similar cases. Grills are a must for higher floors. Otherwise, it is only a matter of time before you hear about another such tragedy.

Very sad about this particular case.

It is the urgent need that all the bldgs which are constructed should be strictly made safe by enclosing the balconies. Most of the builders have not allowed the occupants to enclose the balconies with grills for the best-known reason to the
bldg society. Atleast now they will open their eyes after such tragedies and make it compulsory that the balconies on the upper floor be not used without grills.

When a baby dies, we all become united and mourn. We feel sad and some even relate the kid to ones in their house and feel what the parents of the departed soul must be going through.
This is really a sad incident. May the innocent soul rest in peace and may god give strength to the family members

This type sad fall hear in every cities high rise buildings.
More protected safer balconies may avoid such incidents rather going for look
-no horizontal bars for balcony grills pls. as children can climb easily.
-no chair, no stool to put in balcony where kids stay.
    Pray for no more incidents+

It shows parents negligence. Why there is no safety in the balcony? Balcony should always covered with Grill and other safety things. Very sad because of negligence innocent child lost his precious life.

Baby RIP. This is the height of negligence on part of the parents/guardians. If a bit of attention on the safety issue of balcony was considered this incident would have been prevented. I still urge the caretakers/ parents always to be alert and take safety precautions when child is around.

What a tragedy? A baby falls down and dies. The chair which was kept there in the balcony costed childs life. When a baby is there why keep a chair in the balcony? Proper shelter to the balcony should have been arranged for the protection of the child. All those who have a child should protect their small babies from such danger. RIP

First of all May innocent angels soul RIP it died for no fault of hers.

Well these days parents are not cautious they think kids can be on their own this is a dangerous new trend.

Why would anyone keep a chair for a kid to climb in Balcony. Gross negligence. If it was in US parents would have been arrested by now for negligence.
