Mangaluru, May 3: The sixth graduation day of St Agnes College (Autonomous) was held on Tuesday, May 2 at college auditorium.
The programme commenced with a ceremonial march from the college office to auditorium followed by the invocation. Chief guest Prof K Byrappa vice-chancellor of Mangaluru University, the president of programme Sr Ida Barboza, secretary of Carmel educational society Karnataka, Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC , the superior of St Agnes convent and joint secretary of St Agnes College , the members of the governing body , academic council, the deans of the all the facilities , the members of various boards of studies and exams , PTA members and heads of the institutions were joined the ceremonial march.
The alumni and the parents were among the special invites of the inaugural ceremony. Dr Catharine Nirmala, H O D,PG Commerce welcomed the dignitaries and after which the registrar St Agnes College (Autonomous) presented the degrees to the dignitaries. There were 655 graduates in all including 21 rank holders while received cash prizes.
The chief guest Prof Byrappa in his graduation address congratulated the all students on their success and wished them a bright future ahead. His address laid trust on the role of individuals in the issues of education, social responsibility and nation- building at large.
Sr. Barboza in her presidential address congratulated the graduates and inspired them motivated words. She urged them always abide by the values upheld by their alma mater and wished that the batch of Agnesians also contribute their services for the development of the society in all possible spheres. The chief guest in the presence of all dignitaries awarded the rank holders with cash prizes and confirmed degrees to all graduates. Chetana, convener and head of the BBA department, rendered the vote of thanks.
This is the sixth graduation day of the college. St Agnes college (Autonomous) which attained academic autonomy in 2007 and made its forays into post graduate education in 2008, is now only College in under the Mangaluru university and third in state of Karnataka and eighteenth in the country to receive the ‘College of excellence’ by UGC in early 2017.
