Mysuru, May 3: In the child trafficking racket that was unearthed in the city recently, one of the cases relates to a lady who believed that her child was stillborn. Her happiness knew no bounds upon finding that her female child is alive.
A couple, which already had two daughters, yearned to have a son. After the lady became pregnant, she had got admitted into Naseema Hospital in the city which was near her home, for delivery. However, it came as rude shock to her when she learnt from the doctors that the child had died in the womb. The hospital staff also had convinced her that they would conduct the funeral of the mortal remains of the baby.
The couple had resigned themselves to fate and returned home empty-handed. Recently the lady came to know from the media that the said hospital was involved with child trafficking. Out of curiosity she visited Bapuji Childrens Home where the rescued children were kept. When she checked on the children kept there, she saw a child, facial features of which matched with that of her husband. She met district superintendent of police Ravi D Channannavar along with her hospital records. The police, who arranged for DNA test, confirmed that the said child was born to this woman.
The couple is happy now. Every child rescued from the jaws of the traffickers has a story to tell. A committee formed by the state government to study and recommend steps to be taken in respect of 16 children so rescued, has recommended to give the children back to those who bought them for a year for nurturing and caring for them. It said that out of 16, seven children are under the age of 5, who continue to believe that those who bought them are their parents. Therefore, by entering into agreement with them, the children can be given to them to care for one year, it feels. It is not known whether this recommendation would be accepted.
