Chikkaballapur, May 1: In connection with a case of air travel undertaken by two persons by impersonating as municipal councillors, the police here have served notices on 25 municipal councillors here.
The municipality had spent heavily to enable 33 councillors including two nominated members to take part in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and optimum water use of water training held at New Delhi on October 2, 2015. It had spent on booking air tickets for all of them and for stay in a costly hotel at New Delhi. Among them, six councillors had cancelled their journey for different reasons. At the fag end of the travel, two more had cancelled their visit, but in their place, two others had travelled to New Delhi by impersonating as municipal councillors.
An RTI activist, Nagaraj, had obtained detailed information from Airports Authority of India and urban development ministry by filing application under Right to Information Act. The information so obtained confirmed that fake persons had undertaken this travel. He had thereafter complained to the authorities concerned.
After the authorities thereafter asked the municipal commissioner here to investigate the complaint and send report, and the deputy commissioner of the district too followed up the matter, the commissioner confirmed that prima facie it looks like fake persons had travelled on that day. The deputy commissioner had asked the municipal council to file police complaint, but it had placed the issue on back burner. After the matter was pursued by the concerned, the municipal councillor recently filed complaint in the police station here.
