Bantwal, Apr 28: When Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai, was returning after taking part in the religious rituals undertaken at the residence of slain vice president of Karopadi gram panchayat, Jameel Karopadi, on Thursday April 27, a crowd of locals mobbed him. The angry mob questioned Rai about the failure of police department in detecting the culprits behind this murder and arresting them even after a week since Jameel was murdered.

The locals expressed the apprehension that police officers were alone responsible for not arresting the people who committed this murder. Some among them complained about faulty working style of Vittal police. Many locals expressed anguish at Rai, saying that no one had cared for the family of Jameel, although he dedicated his entire life for Congress party. They accused Rai and other leaders of behaving as if they are concerned only with votes, nothing else.

Rai told the crowd that he and other leaders have been constantly bringing pressure on the police to nab the culprits behind the murder and that the officers have been working hard to crack the case and arrest the guilty. He expressed confidence that the police will succeed in their task soon.

In the meanwhile, some locals said that they will give for indefinite bandh call in Kanyana and Karopady beginning from Friday April 28 to express their ire against the police department's failure to arrest the murderers even after a week since the murder. They recalled that the department had expressed confidence of making arrests within 48 hours.
