Bengaluru, Apr 27: The high court (HC) of Karnataka, on Wednesday April 26, stayed first information report (FIR) filed by Maddur police in Mandya district against KAS officer, L Bheema Naik. The first information report was lodged relating to alleged abetment to suicide in respect of suicide committed by Naik's car driver, K C Ramesh.

The single judge bench of the HC presided over by Justice Anand Byrareddy, in addition to issuing stay order, ordered issuance of notices to police of Maddur station and brother of Shashikumar, brother of deceased Ramesh, who happens to be the complainant.

Advocate for the petitioner, placing arguments before the bench, sought to dismiss the allegation of abetment to suicide levelled against his client as false. He pointed out that the investigating officer had failed to bring together any evidence to prove this allegation even after 90 days since the FIR was registered. Therefore he sought to quash the FIR.

Ramesh was the driver for the car of special land acquisition officer, L Bheema Naik, who is under suspension now. On December 6, 2016, Ramesh had committed suicide by consuming poison in a lodge at Maddur. He had left behind a death note in which he had accused Bheema Naik of converting over a hundred crore rupees of demonetised currency notes into new notes for a politician. He said that Naik also arranged to pose threats to his life through rowdies. He also said that Naik was responsible for his death.

On the basis of this death note, Maddur police had registered the FIR.
