Puttur: Theft at two places in Koila - seven lac rupees stolen

Puttur, Apr 27: Thieves entered two houses in Koila village in the taluk, one in Pooringa area and the other in Badila, on the night of Tuesday. The heist is valued at around seven lac rupees.

Adam Haji living at Pooringa said that two lac rupees in cash apart from four sovereigns of gold ornaments were stolen from his house. Abubakker from Badila stated that Rs 1.65 lac in cash and about ten sovereigns of gold ornaments were taken away from his home.

At Pooringa where the theft took place, 15 people were living. Four of them were asleep in the room from where the valuables and cash were stolen. However, there was no one at the house in Badila when theft occurred.The house was locked, and theft came to light after the children living in the neighbourhood noticed that the door was open.

The marriage of Adam Haji's son was performed on April 16. Both of his sons living in Saudi Arabia had come back for the marriage. The family had left for pilgrimage after the marriage. They reached back home at 11 pm on Tuesday and about 15 persons had stayed there overnight. One of the sons, Shakir, who got up to relieve himself at 4 am on Wednesday noticed that the front door was open. He alerted others, who started searching. They found that the cupboard inside the room was open and cash and gold ornaments kept therein had gone missing. Cash stolen in this case is said to be donation amount received for the reconstruction of Madrassa building in Gandibagilu. Adam Haji is the treasurer of the Jumma Masjid Committee there.

Badila Abubakker works in Saudi Arabia. His wife, Zubaida, used to stay here with her children. On Tuesday evening, Zubaida had left for her parental home at Nekkare near Alankaru.

Both cases were registered in Kadaba police station. Deputy superintendent of police, Bhaskar Rai, rural police inspector, Anil Kulkarni and other police personnel visited the spot and conducted inspected. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts were also summoned. As per current information, the needle of suspicion has turned towards two people living in Koila area. Apparently, the thieves knew about the area and that people were away on that day.
