Karkala: Forest officials conduct surprise raids at wood saw mills

Karkala, Apr 27: A team of officials conducted surprise raids to 16 wood saw mills in taluk limits on Wednesday, April 26.

The raids were conducted after receiving information that large trees in the taluk limits are cut illegally as logs and stored.

Staff in the leadership of Moodbidri assistant conservator of forests Subrahmanya and Karkala circle forest officer Prakash Poojary went to six wood saw mills in the urban area and ten mills in rural area and conducted inspection.

Valuable wood without suitable records was found in the operation. The mills have been ordered to submit their records within a week. The officials have warned that suitable legal action will be initiated against those who do not submit supporting documents.
