Bengaluru, Apr 26: At a time when Congress has finalized names for the three seats of nominated members in the state legislative council, K P Nanjundi, leader of Vishwakarma community, has flared up against the party leadership. He has told Congress leadership that his community and heads of Maths associated with it will not remain mute spectators if he is not made member of the legislative council this time.
The party high command had cleared the names of former city mayor, P R Ramesh, Mohan Kondajji, and C M Lingappa, to the three vacant spots in the legislative council. The file is about to be sent to the governor with details of the sectors that have been served by the leaders, when Nanjundi expressed his resentment. Nanjundi, many feel, is justified in getting angry as his name had cropped up several times in the past for one post or the other, and he had lost each time by a whisker at the last moment.
Nanjundi got angry after coming to know that his name was replaced by Ramesh in the final list. He said his name had been recommended to the high command six months back, and that as per indications, he is not being made a council minister this time. "It is up to the chief minister, Siddaramaiah, to make me a member of the legislative council or not. He will be entirely responsible for what I will become," he stated. "Vishwakarma community, which has been backing me, will naturally get angry at Congress for this denial. Many leaders of the community from different districts have already called me to inform me that they would be leading agitations against this injustice. I will not be able to handle them. I will not meet the chief minister with a request to give me council membership. But if I do not become a member of the council, my community and heads of Maths will not remain mute spectators. I hope Siddaramaiah will not allow the situation to deteriorate to such an extent," he felt.
