Berlin, Apr 26 (IANS): Nuri Sahin has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund ahead of schedule, both football sides confirmed in an official statement.
The 28-year-old Turkish international has put pen to paper on an extension and will stay with the BVB until June 2019, the club announced on Tuesday, reports Xinhua news agency.
"We are very happy that that Nuri will stay with us. He is a child of the region, a really good guy and deeply rooted with Borussia Dortmund," sporting director Michael Zorc told the club's official homepage.
Sahin wears Dortmund's jersey since almost 16 years including three short spells at other clubs. He played his ways through Dortmund's youth ranks before he singed his first professional contract in the summer of 2005.
"Everyone knows how well I feel in Dortmund, the city, the stadium with our extraordinary supporters. BVB is the club of my heart," Sahin said.
The midfielder played two years for Dortmund before he joined Dutch side Feyernoord Rotterdam in 2007 for one year.
Sahin returned to Dortmund in 2008 and transferred to Real Madrid in 2011. After one year in Madrid he joined Liverpool until 2013 before rejoining Dortmund in 2013.
Sahin made overall 204 appearances for the BVB and provided 36 assists and 19 goals.
Thomas Tuchel's men currently sit in third place of the Bundesliga standings. They encounter Cologne in the 31st round to defend their spot on Saturday.
