Puttur, Apr 21: In a tragic incident which happened at Uppinangady on Thursday April 20, the mother of the bride who took part with enthusiasm in the rituals, died of cardiac arrest when the last ritual of the function was under way.
Varija (40), wife of Taniyappa from Ekkalike in Piligoodu Ajira near Uppinangady witnessed her daughter's marriage before succumbing to heart ailment.
Varija's daughter's marriage was held with a youth from Kanchinadka in Mogru village on Thursday at Sri Guru Raghavendra Math hall at Nekkilady. After all the rituals, the last ritual of handing the bride over to the groom was in progress when Varija suddenly experienced searing pain in her chest and collapsed to the ground. Although she was immediately admitted into a private hospital at Uppinangady, her life could not be saved.
It is gathered that Varija had suffered from heart-related problem in the past and undergone surgery. She was advised another surgery but because of financial problem, it was postponed. Varija's husband, Taniyappa, is differently abled and works as cooly to look after his family. Out of one daughter and two sons, one of the sons has stopped schooling midway to help family by working as cooly. The only daughter of the couple was married off on Thursday and the mother left for heavenly abode in the dying moments of the function.
