Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Apr 21: In a tragic incident which happened at Uppinangady on Thursday April 20, the mother of the bride who took part with enthusiasm in the rituals, died of cardiac arrest when the last ritual of the function was under way.

Varija (40), wife of Taniyappa from Ekkalike in Piligoodu Ajira near Uppinangady witnessed her daughter's marriage before succumbing to heart ailment.

Varija's daughter's marriage was held with a youth from Kanchinadka in Mogru village on Thursday at Sri Guru Raghavendra Math hall at Nekkilady. After all the rituals, the last ritual of handing the bride over to the groom was in progress when Varija suddenly experienced searing pain in her chest and collapsed to the ground. Although she was immediately admitted into a private hospital at Uppinangady, her life could not be saved.

It is gathered that Varija had suffered from heart-related problem in the past and undergone surgery. She was advised another surgery but because of financial problem, it was postponed. Varija's husband, Taniyappa, is differently abled and works as cooly to look after his family. Out of one daughter and two sons, one of the sons has stopped schooling midway to help family by working as cooly. The only daughter of the couple was married off on Thursday and the mother left for heavenly abode in the dying moments of the function.

Its pathetic that a son of a coolie, ends up as a coolie in life. The day we help the needy like this young man who had to abandon his studies, our nation will prosper.

Someone please hire him for limited work so that he can continue studies on correspondence course so that a generation will be lifted up from poverty. Else, with no mother and sisters around to look after the both men, the family may go in alcoholic or other addiction and possible destruction.

    RIP Vijaya.

What is there that India did not achieve in 70 years that will be achieved in 5 years ? Be practical, gentleman, I am a daughter of illiterate parents, I have out of self striving reached the stage of writing this to you. Had I been like the majority of Indian population, I too should have been placing my thumb impression like my parents did wherever a signature is required.

Self confidence and determination is what required, not a different government and of-course coordination/cooperation among citizens to help each other - not jealousy and hatred. Mark my words, you will continue to say the same thing after five more years too, that you have been saying since three years - its not easy to change what has been for 70 years.
