Bengaluru, Apr 21: Leader of the opposition in the state legislative council and former deputy chief minister of Karnataka, K S Eshwarappa, has expressed regret at the growing indiscipline in BJP. He was addressing a press conference held in a hotel in the city on Thursday April 20.
"Our party was known for its discipline. But now indiscipline has set in. Take for example the failure of the concerned to implement the instruction of national president of the party, Amit Shah, to revise the list of office bearers that had been prepared unilaterally," he stated. He said he is hurt by the fact that the committee comprising four members formed by Amit Shah to douse dissidence in the party within the deadline of February 10, has not been followed. He felt that this committee has thrown discipline to winds by not meeting even once since the national president formed it, which he said has pained him a lot.
Being part of the disciplined party, all the leaders of the party at the state level have been trying to make Yeddyurappa the next chief minster of Karnataka after the national leaders picked him for this post. "The members of our party feel that thinking about any other name for this post also gets counted as indiscipline," he remarked. He wanted to know whether the overlooking of Amit Shah's directive to the committee headed by BJP state in-charge, Muraleedhar Rao, to revise the list of office bearers and address the dissidence, is not an act of indiscipline.
Eshwarappa said that leaders loyal to BJP had met at Tumakuru on Wednesday. It was decided at the meeting to organize a meeting of of party activists in the city on April 27 with the objective of saving the party, and that about a thousand activists are expected to be part of this programme.
Eshwarappa told the media persons that it has been decided to further strengthen the controversial Sangolli Rayanna Brigade in the state by holding 'Abhyasa Varga' on May 8 at Raichur and conference of office bearers at Mysuru on June 18. "We have already released list of office bearers of the youth unit of the Brigade. List of women's unit of the organization will be released at Raichur on May 8," he stated. He said that shortly the Brigade will be felicitating two students from each of the junior colleges scoring highest marks, and for this programme all the national leaders including Yeddyurappa will be invited.
