Mangaluru: Cocaine trafficker absconding for 23 years arrested by customs officers

Mangaluru, Apr 20: An accused involved in the illicit trafficking of cocaine in 1994, and absconding for 23 years, was nabbed by the officers of customs recently.

The accused, B Ansar (50), was arrested by the customs officers in Udupi.

On February 9, 1994 one kg of cocaine valued at Rs 35 lac was seized from the accused at a hotel in Mangaluru. The accused who was caught trafficking cocaine was later released on bail with certain conditions. After his bail, he went absconding for over two decades.

The customs officers had been on the lookout for him since then. Reliable sources have been cultivated in the recent past and gathered actionable leads crystallized in apprehending and arresting of the accused at Udupi. The constant and concerted efforts taken by the officers ultimately yielded the results.

The arrested person was produced before the principal district and sessions judge K S Bilagi who remanded him to judicial custody. Udayanad, special public prosecutor is representing the department and providing necessary guidance.

    In UAE as per the article 401 of UAE Penal Code which reads: “Detention or a fine shall be imposed upon anyone who, in bad faith, gives a draft (cheque) without a sufficient and drawable balance . The issuer is kept inside jail until he pays Cheque money and lawyer fee. Same way India has to make a rule if the lawyer is applying for bail on behalf of culprit than they have to keep the lawyer inside jail until they catches the culprit if he runs away.
