Mangaluru: 'Valour, not weaponry, brought Kargil war victory' - Gen V P Malik

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 20: Retired chief of Indian Army, Gen Ved Prakash Malik, pointed out that the Indian army won Kargil war without crossing the international boarder or line of actual control and without the backing of too many advanced weaponry. He said that the Jawans of the army deserve full credit for having overcome all odds that came their way and fighting this war with pure chivalry and determination.

He was speaking when making a power point presentation about Kargil war on Wednesday April 19 at Town Hall here. The programme was organized under the aegis of Dakhina Kannada District Retired Army Men's Association, Nitte Education Trust, Lions Club International District 317D as well as Shastava Bhootanatheshwara Temple Trust.

"When the Lahore Agreement was being executed between the two countries, encroachment of Kargil sector had begun. Initially the encroachment was attributed to Jihad. In fact, although Jihadists were blamed for this aggression, actually the Pakistani soldiers had infiltrated into India in their guise. Dark clouds of war had appeared in the horizon and the uncertainty about national security was experienced," he said in a narrative that was very impressive.

Gen Malik pointed out that soldiers had to fight with their Pakistani counterparts at heights measuring 14,000 to 16,000 ft above sea level, as Tiger HIll was located at around 18,000 ft. "After India conducted nuclear tests against the wishes of other countries, economic restrictions were placed on India then and the country was facing a situation in which it was not possible to acquire weapons. Without being aided by sufficient weapons at their disposal, our valiant soldiers won war more out of their patriotism and chivalry. Compared to Pakistani soldiers, our soldiers are the best," he stated.

Talking of heroes of the war, Gen Malik mentioned the names of Capt Vikram Batra, Maj Acharya, Jawan Sunil, etc. He also showed the letters written by them to their families without losing enthusiasm and interest in life in spite of the hardship they were facing.

Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Dr K G Jagadeesh, superintendent of police, Bhushan G Borase, Lions Distrcit governor, Arun Shetty, managing trustee of Shastava Sri Bhootanatheshwar Temple, Vijayanath Vittal Shetty, president of Retired Army Men's Association, Vikram Datta, Balakrishna N and others were present.

Col Nitteguthu Sharath Bhandary welcomed. Col N Balakrishna delivered introductory address.

A tacit acknowledgement by the General that in spite of known threat, the then government and the army commanders were caught napping. They were ill equipped and were off guard. Uri was a repeat performance.

Dear Retired chief of Indian Army, Gen Ved Prakash Malik, stop blowing your trumpet, sitting in confines of your comfort zone you fought the war. At the time of war, I was in Dubai and we got the real news. Indian soldiers were gun fodder. The pakis shot Indian soldiers between their eyes, It was on arrival of Israeli weapons you fought the Kargil war but never recovered fully.

    Jayanth,
Here I support Godwin to a certain extent. First of all, what Gen Malik is saying is a speech to motivate the general public as most of them believe in news but most of it is bakwas. In fact, it was the Bofors guns from Sweden, has helped us to fire our enemies. Till this date, the BJP, never appreciate the Bofors gun has helped our Indian soldiers to fight against Pakistan in Kargil war.
During Kargil war, BJP was in power.

Secondly our soldiers did not have winter shoes as this war took place durng winter times. This is precisely the reason, we lost more than 1100 soldiers which could have been reduced, if they had winter shoes. India required that time, more 50,000 winter shoes and they did not procure it in advance nor could not procure it at that time. Such lethargic attitude of our responsible officers.
Third, it was the Israel, western countries intelligent have awakened us that Pakistan soldiers are already inside our soil and then, we have got up from sleep. It was these countries gave us tactical support, required intelligence to attack Pakistani soldiers.

For you news might be Pakistan news which might suits you.

Gen Malik was right in one thing to a certain extent. Only because of our valour of our soldiers we have won the Kargil war. At the same time, he is speaking to the retired Indian defense personnel association.

Kargil war was a disaster war for India and more disaster to our enemy Country Pakistan.; but we never learnt lessons till date. Sorry to say, all politicians are playing at the blood of our citizens including our soldiers. Hope our Country will have a strong, Defense Minister who will really understand the needs of our Jawans. Jai Hind.

Yours arguments are based on unverified and biased source. You cannot call a person who spent most part of his life in army as Fake.

If you have difference with BJP address it separately..here no where BJP is praised or Congress is blamed by the General.

Kargil - a tough terrain, enemy disguised as mercenaries and moreover restrained to cross the line in order to avoid full scale war involving nuclear weapons.

I respect Generals words and not those who watch and believe Ary and Geo channells sitting in comfort zones in dubai.
