Mangaluru, Apr 19: "My brother Narendra is a diamond. He alone is sufficient as leader to run this nation," said Prahlad Damodardas Modi, brother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, April 18.
Prahlad was speaking to a Kannada daily during his visit in city which is part of his pilgrimage of religious places in the state.
"I do not have any intention of entering into politics to follow in the footsteps of my brother Narendra. He alone is sufficient for the job of running the nation. Hence, no member from our family, especially children of our mother Hiraben, needs to join politics," Prahlad said.
"I am an ordinary man"
"I am an ordinary citizen of this nation like everyone else. Just because I am the brother of the Prime Minister, it is wrong on my part to aspire for better position in society. Demanding a better treatment and security is also wrong. I don't show that I am the brother of Narendra. I feel that others too who belong to the families of prominent people should cultivate this habit of being simple. They should not demand anything special anywhere. I have come here with my family as an ordinary man,” he added.
"If your relative becomes the Prime Minister of India, naturally you will be happy about it. The same way, I am happy and my joy cannot be just measured in words," he said.
Beautiful city
"Mangaluru is a beautiful city. This is not my first visit here. It is only that after many years I came here. I have already visited Kadri and Kudroli temples. I will visit other places and then proceed on our tour of other places in Karnataka including Belur, Halebeedu and Shravanabelagola," Prahlad said.
Prahlad still runs a fair price shop in Ahmedabad. He is the president of fair price dealers association. He is one among the four sons of Hiraben. Elder Soma Modi, who worked for the health department, is retired now and runs a senior citizens home in Ahmedabad, while the other brother Narendra is the Prime Minister, and the youngest Pankaj works for government in Gandhinagar.
Prahlad visited Hampi before coming to Mangaluru.
