Bengaluru: With people, cattle suffering water shortage, no funds for temples - CM

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Apr 18: With more than three-fourths of Karnataka facing severe drought and people suffering due to loss of crops and drinking water, with even cattle and animals facing problems of finding drinking water and fodder this year, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sternly rejected a petition seeking funds for construction of a temple at a village in Harappanahalli in Davanagere.

The Chief Minister was meeting people during his Janata Darshan at his official residence in Bengaluru on Tuesday, when two people from a village in Harappanalli sought funds from the State Government for construction of a temple in their village.

After seeing the application, Siddaramaiah said: "There is no money for construction of the temple. The whole state is facing drought and people are facing severe shortage of drinking water. Even the cattle and animals are suffering."

The State Government on Tuesday released a sum of Rs 265 crore input subsidy directly to the bank accounts of 4.47 lakh farmers across various districts.

Siddaramaiah held a video conference at his official residence 'Krishna' with Deputy Commissioners, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officers and Regional Commissioners on prevailing drought situation and steps taken to tackle the situation.

The Chief Ministers told officials to take control of private borewells, if necessary, to mitigate drinking water supply in villages, after paying owners of borewells rent for drawing water.

However, he told officials not to draw water from private borewells by force and tactfully handle the situation by convincing the people to help the less fortunate ones.

Siddaramaiah made it clear that there was no shortage of funds for implementing drought relief measures. Adequate stock of fodder has been maintained for livestock.

Earlier the State government has released Rs 671 Crore input subsidy benefiting 12.03 lakh farmers.

So far, the State Government has credited input subsidy ofRs936 Crore to the bank accounts of farmers, he said.

In the day-long meeting, Siddaramaiah sought details about amount sanctioned for drought relief works to each district and money spent, steps taken to ensure supply of drinking water, fodder to live stocks, opening of goshalas and providing jobs to stop migration in search of jobs.

He told Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department officials to release daily wages to beneficiaries under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme within 15 days of work.

Revenue Minister KagoduThimmappa and other Ministers attended the video conference and instructed the officials on the steps to be taken for tackle drought.

Recent survey say's Hindus have awakened & have stopped dhaan petti to temple.. instead they have adopted a indirect way of helping temple to manage its direct operation.(in form of sponsor, or by directly purchasing essential commodities to temple )

What is the use, when temple money is denied for temple purpose. For all those uneducated people, who do not know what do you mean by"mujarai", Govt collects the money collection from all popular temples(only) & spends on so called "Bhagyas" & just gives back peanuts in return to same temples.

I bet you, there isn't any church or mosque which will come under "mujarai"..!If a handful of them do exists(i doubt), then its just for name sake.

God Bless our CM!!! Prasad will be distributed next year..!

Jai ho Shaadi, Mutton, Haj,Tippu bhagyas..!

As compared to pathetic condition of congress party in other states, it is still surviving in Karnataka only because none of their previous Chief Ministers indulged in minorities’ appeasement so much as compared to Siddaramaiah. His Govt. functioning is really good as compared to previous BJP Govt. But, he should keep in mind that more and more he tries to appease minorities, he will lose more and more votes of majority community.

These people will go back to Davangere and say CM is against Hindus !!!and not helping build a temple and villagers quicklt latch on to such small things and forget all the bhagyas !!!

farmers were also suffering during Tippu jayanthi. it was unwanted waste of money. If Siddu is pragmatic he can bring a law similar to Assam where people having more than two children and marrying below the leagal age are not eligible for government Jobs. This should have been the approach. At a time when resources are scarce, unwanted population are a burden and reduces the water table and icreases the pollution. Siddu will not use these approaches because he no concern for next generation. He does not want to risk his vote Bank.

Mr. Siddaramaiah is the best CM Karnataka ever seen. Opposition is trying to pull him down, but, he doesn't care, walks tall keeping his head high. His priority is welfare of people. God doesn't require a place to dwell built with bricks. He dwells in the hearts of His people. So, first take care of His people who are the temple of God.

After May 2014, AK Anthony has submitted a report to the High Command the reasons for the debacle in the elections- The one and only reason is "Anti Hindu" policies of the Congress party. Siddu might be thinking he has won the Bye election and no one will stop him becoming the CM in 2018. The election was fought in Congress strong hold and JDS did not contest the elections, but even then the BJP vote share has increased. Its not Modi wave, its Congress Anti Hindu policies which is helping the BJP.

Can you tell me for which church building the government has given money? This is a correct decision by the CM and should not been seen as an anti religious move. I am reminded of Vijay Mallya who did not pay his employees, but donated a very expensive gold crown to the Gods for good luck. Giving money to transparent charitable institutions is good as the money is used for the welfare of the needy, but giving money for buildings like temples, churches, mosques while people are going hungry without food and water is a sin.

I think your knowledge is very limited. At least please go through google you will get an idea about how much money was spent on church. You have given the example of Vijay mallya but this kind of people are in every religion. There is no guaranty of every charitable institutions will do the good. When the govt spending money for useless programs you people are quiet why? Please keep in mind that the govt is collecting money from temples only & not from churches or masjid etc. this is also a discrimination. Supporting political party is different & supporting the social justice is different. I hope you can understand the difference.

Is there any way in which temple can come out of Muzurai department and control their own finances?? If yes then temple should start initiating this process, especially the big temples like Dharamasthala, subramanya temple, kadri temple, Murudeshwar temple, gokarna temple, Kollur temple...

The big temples in the state shold adopt smaller temples in their vicinity, which will then stop the temples to beg infront of any government for funds...

Whatever Siddaramaya do Chaddis have problem. He didn't deny the Monetary help to the Temple instead he requested the delegation to wait sometime until the Government of Karnataka tackle the Drought situation in more 3/4th part of the State where the Chaddis and their paid Prestitutes as usual, twisted the CM's words of their design. I think "CHADDI VIRUS" is more serious VIRUS than any other KILLER viruses which must be treated in 2018.

Proportion to the population of 2% minorities contribution, what is the contribution of the majority. If the government is giving funds to minorities it is because giving back what you took all these years . Why you need funds when you are 85% belong to one religion? Why dont 85% cannot join and make a temple, schools and hospital?

Before patting the back, pl have some basic understanding of the state finance.. Who is giver and who is beneficiary etc..... State has to be secular.. just looking at school hospitals, state can not pour money on one side looking at vote bank... don't try to blame the community as if we are sitting and eating.. after understanding the finance, you may get a feeling that it is quite opposite.

Why dont you share the pattern of funding and sources of funding of all these institutions vs the majority institutions? The answer is NGO, missionary and charity funding from west. That is why the skew existed in the institutions, which is no longer the case. Btw, the news is about temple funding and government receives the offerings from temples via mujarai dept.
