Kundapur, Apr 15: In connection with the attack and murder attempt on deputy commissioner (DC) of Udupi district, Priyanka Mary Francis, assistant commissioner (AC) here, Shilpa Nag, and the gunman of the DC during the  raid conducted by the officers on illegal sand extraction units at Kandlur near here, three more persons were arrested on Friday April 14. With this, arrests relating to this high-handed attitude of sand mafia have reached 24.

Those arrested on Friday were Muhammed Bilal (26), Muhammed Zakir (32) and Mansur Ahmed (24), all from Kandlur. They were produced before the magistrate after which they were remanded to judicial custody.

A  crowd of about 50 to 60 persons had attacked a team of officials led by the DC which had conducted surprise raid on illegal sand mining area at Kandlur. A case of assault and murder attempt was lodged by the DC, after which the police have been arresting the people involved therein.
