Bengaluru, Apr 14: State High Court on Thursday April 13, dismissed the bail application filed by Rajeshwari Shetty, main accused in the murder of her husband, Bhaskar Shetty.
Justice P S Dinesh Kumar, who heard the bail application, said in his order that as Rajeshwari is the main accused and that there is sufficient evidence against her to prove her role in the murder, bail cannot be granted to her in such circumstances.
The prosecution had contended that if Rajeshwari is released on bail, there are chances of her destroying evidence relating to the crime.
Bhaskar Shetty with Rajeshwari and Navaneet
Bhaskar Shetty went missing from his residence in Indrali in Udupi in July last year. A week later, Rajeshwari and her son Navaneet were arrested by the Manipal police.
Later three more arrests were made, Niranjan Bhat an astrologer being one among them.
During interrogation, it was found that Bhaskar Shetty was killed and then burnt. Later his remains were immersed in a river.
In DNA tests done later as per court order, it was proved that the bones found during investigation belonged to deceased Bhaskar Shetty.
The murder of Bhaskar Shetty is considered as one of most brutal ones in the district.
