Shivamogga, Apr 13: The recent killing of a baby which was administered with sleeping pills mixed with milk before being thrown into the river, it turns out, was the handiwork of a person who was madly in love with the child's mother.
The murder, which had happened at Shivayogashrama, a centre of faith, had given rise to lot of rumours. However, the police, who investigated the case, said that accused, Rudresh, who got angry at the fact that the mother of the child was not in love with him, had killed the child. Rudresh, it is said, has been in love with this lady since several years but she had not reciprocated it.
District superintendent of police, Abhinav Khare, who visited the Math on Wednesday April 12, told the media persons that Rudresh loved the child's mother, Chaitra, very much but the lady did not love him. She had married an engineer and settled down in Pune. Chaitra, who is pregnant again, had come to take part in the programme of ascension to the throne of the Math after the death of the previous head of the Math. Making use of this opportunity, Rudresh fed milk mixed with sleeping pills to the child of Chaitra before tossing it into the river. He also gave sleeping pills with food to Chaitra and others who are close to her, Khare said.'
The superintendent of police added that the accused, in his statement, has clarified that this incident does not have anything to do with the Math, its property, or the choice of successor of the Math, although Chaitra was related to the Swamiji who passed away sometime back.
