Puttur: Serial thefts in religious places continue, two temples targeted

Puttur, Apr 13: Serial thefts in religious places continue. In addition to thefts in churches two days before, now two temples have been targeted by unidentified thieves. They managed to decamp with valuables worth lacs from these two temples at Shiradi on Wednesday, April 12.

Ammaje Durgaparameshwari temple and Kalapparu Subramanya temple are these temples both located in Shiradi near Uppinangadi.

As per reports, there was a meeting of management committee at Ammaje Durgaparameshwari temple till 11 pm on Tuesday night. Some devotees too were there till that time. It is suspected that thieves entered the temple after all left. Front door was seen broken. Ornaments of around 20 grams gold and approximately Rs 35,000 in cash were stolen from the temple in addition to other some items. The temple priest was the first person to know about the theft when he entered the temple premises in the early morning.


Ammaje Durgaparameshwari temple

At Kalapparu Subramanya temple, devotees and management were involved in preparations for the scheduled annual feast and were busy working in the temple premises on Monday and Tuesday. It was discovered on Wednesday morning that approximately Rs 5,000 was stolen from the alms box in the temple. Broken alms box was found few meters away from the temple.

DySP Bhaskar Rai, circle inspector Anil S Kulkarni, other police personnel, canine squad and finger print experts arrived at both the temples and examined.

Two separate cases stand registered at Uppinangadi police station.
