Bengaluru, Apr 12: The suicide case of Bhavya Handa (26), a software engineer working for Wipro, has acquired an interesting twist. As per the early reports, it was thought to be a case of suicide, as Bhavya had fallen from the fourth floor of her apartment complex at Marathhalli here on Saturday. The family members of Bhavya have been insisting that this is a clear case of murder.
The police, who have registered dowry harassment case, have arrested Bhavya's husband, Mohit, relating to the case. They are searching for Mohit's sister, Rajani, and her husband, Dheeraj, who also have been named as accused in the case. Bhavya's parents and close relatives are demanding to treat this as a case of murder.
Bhavya had married software engineer, Mohit, in December 2016. Her father, Raveendra, says that his daughter frequently expressed her dismay over repeated demand for dowry made by her husband and his younger sister. He said that Dheeraj and his wife, Rajani, who happens to be the younger sister of Mohit, stay in the same apartment complex. "My daughter was to meet family friend, Jippi, on Saturday and collect Rs 40,000 from him. She wanted to collect the money and hand it over to Mohit, but the husband who reached home at that time, objected to the clothes worn by Bhavya. Mohit did not like her wearing jeans. After the couple fought over this issue, he attacked my daughter and murdered her by pushing her down from the fourth floor," he said in his complaint filed with the police.
Raveendra points out that as per information gathered during discussions with security staff, he came to know that Bhavya was tossed head down and that she was wearing only one shoe at the time, with the other shoe remaining inside the house. "If she wanted to commit suicide, she would have worn both the shoes or left both of them at home. There can be no reason for wearing one shoe when ending life," he feels. Simarpreet Singh, a neighbour and family friend of Raveendra, also told the police that he heard shrieks from inside the house of Bhavya. He said that he knew Bhavya since long and that she was bold and therefore in his opinion, she would not have taken the decision to end her life.
Whitefield deputy commissioner of police, M Narayan, speaking to media persons, said that the police are yet to receive postmortem report. He said that the police personnel have been recording statements of family members and witnesses. He said that if the evidences and witnesses corroborate the murder theory, legal action will be taken under the provisions of the law connected with that offence.
