Udupi, Apr 12: The BJP state executive member K Uday Kumar Shetty addressed issues of security to life of the officials and citizenry in the district, at the Udupi press club Brahmagiri here on Monday, April 10.
Uday Kumar also voiced out condemnation over the attack on DC and AC at Kandlur on behalf of the BJP. He offered the party's support to the government officials.
Women
"There is no protection for women in the state. Now the insecurity has spread to Udupi district. There are many legal provisions for women protection. How does it all fail during implementation?
"The number of cases of women harassment, rape, murder have been increasing day by day. The state government has utterly failed to protect the legal system. They are only wasting time without taking stern action against culprits. So, women live in a fearful atmosphere," Uday Kumar said.
Officials
"The assault on government officials and employees is occurring consistently. Depressed officials are taking to suicide. Farmers also hang themselves. The current state government has been dead. The government has to be awakened as they were during the Manipal student rape incident. Everyone, from the district commissioner to the common government employee, is facing insecurity to life," he further said.
Addressing the recent incident of attack on the DC and AC there, he said, "If harassment continuous in the same way with sincere officers, how can they work smoothly? What about the situation of ordinary people? Ironically Udupi district in-charge minister while campaigning at Nanjangud said 'my mind is in Udupi although my body is here' instead of responding immediately to this incident. As a minister, he should have not reacted like this. He should have taken immediate action. Incidents of women harassment should not occur in the district. If it does hereafter, the district in charge will be directly responsible for it."
Apathy of ministers
"Udupi-Chikamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje was busy in Nanjangud by-poll election as she was in charge of the campaign there. But minister Pramod could have addressed the Kandlur incident and shown seriousness about it as Nanjangud is just six hours journey from Udupi," he said.
The BJP demanded the immediate arrest of the kingpins of sand mafia.
