Mangaluru: 'Madipu' bags another honour, coast bags three state awards

Mangaluru, Apr 12: The government announced winners of the state level film awards for 2016 on Tuesday April 11. Karnataka coast bagged three of the awards.

'Madipu', a Tulu movie based on cultural heritage of the coast, has been selected as the best regional film. 'Kusaldarase' Naveen D Padil has been adjudged the best supporting actor for his acting in Tulu movie, 'Kudla Cafe'.

The third award for the coast has come in the form of 'best entertainment film' award bagged by Kannada movie, 'Kirik Party' made by Rakshit Shetty and directed by Rishab Shetty from here.

It may be recalled that 'Madipu' had emerged as the 'best regional film' in the 64th national film awards announced on April 8. With this movie getting second coveted award, Coastalwood has got another shot in its arm. Chetan Mundodi had provided story and screenplay, as well as art direction for the film, which was produced by Sandeep Kumar Nandalike.

Naveen Padil, who is a household name in the coast for portrayal of comic roles, had attracted attention with his role of a supporting actor in 'Kudla Cafe'. The film produced by Ranjan Shetty and Soorya Menon, was directed by Soorya Menon.

'Kirik Party', which has been a hit film, has also received critical acclaim. The movie added another feather to its cap by winning the 'best entertainment film' award in Kannada.
