Puttur, Apr 12 : In a series of thefts that took place in three churches on the highway near Uppinangadi, alms boxes kept in two churches have been stolen. A church also lost a gold plated Cross.
The incidents happened on early hours of Monday, April 10.
St Mary’s Church and St Thomas Jocobite Syrian Church at Konalu and St Gregorian Orthodox Church Syrian Church at Nelyadi are the three churches where thefts took place.
Thieves took approximately Rs 3,000 from the alms box kept at St Thomas Jocobite Syrian Church at Konalu. They took a small gold plated Cross valued at Rs 6000 and Rs 600 cash from parish priest’s room at St Gregorian Orthodox Church Syrian Church at Nelyadi. The thieves did not get anything when they entered St Mary’s Church Konalu or it is not yet known what they have taken from there.
All these churches are approximately one kilometre away from one another on Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway.
Puttur rural police station circle inspector Anil S Kulkarni and his team visited the spots with canine squad. Investigations are in progress, said police.
