Mangaluru, Apr 11: Under the aegis of several organizations, a protest was held in front of the central railway station here on Monday April 10 evening by the  residents of railway colony here.

They had come together to register their concern and anger at the fact that unknown assailants forced themselves into a house in railway colony on Sunday afternoon, and snatched away ornaments worth about a lac of rupees after launching murderous attack on a woman, Ambujakhi (55).

Addressing the protesters, city corporator, A C Vinayaraj, noted that the woman is in coma after having been badly attacked by intruders. He demanded for the immediate arrest of the culprits. "The houses in railway colony are more than 40 years old, and are not inhabitable. The colony has no security. The department of railways has the responsibility of providing protection to the families of its employees. Railways and railway police departments should immediately take steps in this regard," he demanded.

CPM Kannur district president, Madhusudan, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha state president, Vishwanath Shetty, and a number of other people including women and children took part in the protest.
